Reimbursement

euflexxa® Therapy and Insurance Coverage
Therapy with euflexxa is covered by most insurance providers. Reimbursement procedures vary from provider to provider and plan to plan. You should check with your physician's staff and your insurer before beginning treatment. Here are the suggestions when you contact an insurance company:
  • Identify euflexxa® first by NAME. Most insurance companies recognize euflexxa®. If not try, hyaluronic acid or sodium hyaluroante.
  • If euflesxxa is not recognized by name: ask the service rep to check under the category "viscosupplementation" or "synovial fluid replacement" - euflexxa® belongs to this class of devices.
  • If viscosupplementation and euflexxa® are not recognized: Try providing a Pseudo-DIN or PIN provided by the Atlantic Pharmaceutical Services (APFI) 96599996. euflexxa® is approved by Health Canada as a medical device and, as such, does not have a Drug Identification Number (DIN), only a Pseudo-DIN or PIN. At this point, follow steps #1 to #3.
  • If the drug card rejects euflexxa®: This does NOT mean that the patient is not covered. Simply, patients may be required to fill out an "Insurance Claims" form to apply for reimbursement under the extended health portion of their benefit plan.

Important Treatment Consideration

euflexxa® (1% sodium hyaluronate) is indicated for the treatment of knee pain due to osteoarthritis (OA). It is used in people who have failed to get adequate pain relief either from simple pain medications, such as acetaminophen, or from exercise and/or physical therapy.

euflexxa® should not be used in people who have had any previous allergic reaction to hyaluronate preparations or who have knee joint infections or skin diseases in the area of the injection site.

In a randomized, double-blind, multicenter clinical trial, the only adverse event reported with euflexxa® at an incidence greater than 5% was arthralgia (joint pain) (8.75%). Temporary knee pain and swelling may occur after injection with euflexxa®.

The safety and effectiveness of injecting euflexxa® into the knee together with other injectable medications or into joints other than the knee have not been studied. The safety and effectiveness of treatment cycles of fewer than 3 injections or of repeated treatment cycles with euflexxa® have not been established. Strict aseptic technique must be followed to avoid joint infection.
